BOSTON, Massachusetts – Dec. 12, 2019 – LEGACY Global Sports (LEGACY) today announced a partnership with WorldStrides, a global leader in educational travel. The two companies will team up to provide Global Premier Soccer (GPS) players with international soccer experiences that elevate their game and enrich their lives far beyond the field.
The exclusive partnership between LEGACY and WorldStrides brings robust new travel opportunities to the GPS club network, which is the soccer division of LEGACY. As the oldest and largest student travel organization in the U.S., WorldStrides provides extensive experience with international soccer tours and tournament travel, as well as a worldwide team of travel experts, a sterling reputation for health and safety management, and a global support network. Today, the sports division of WorldStrides partners with more than 150 youth and collegiate soccer clubs to organize customized tours with friendly matches around the world, as well as tournament offerings in soccer meccas like Spain, England, and Italy. These premium cultural experiences are rich in both sports and leisure opportunities for players and their families.
“By partnering with WorldStrides, we are truly upping our game and doubling down on the travel experiences we’re delivering for our soccer community,” said Steve Griffin, CEO of LEGACY Global Sports. “Soccer is the global game, and we are thrilled to see our players experience it as such.”
“Our talented team is thrilled for the opportunity to bring the transformative experiences we deliver to more clubs and more players,” said Eric McAleer, Senior Vice President and General Manager of WorldStrides’ sports division. “My own life was changed by an experience playing soccer abroad as a young man, and we are honored LEGACY has chosen us as their international travel partner.”
WorldStrides will manage upcoming custom tours in 2020 for GPS players from across 27 U.S. States, Puerto Rico and Canada, as well as take their players to tournaments like Super Cup NI and Gothia Cup. This partnership will also allow new travel opportunities for both teams and individual players.
Founded in 1967, WorldStrides now provides educational travel and experiences to more than 400,000 students a year. Its sports division was founded in 1998 by Eric McAleer, a former European professional soccer player, and became part of WorldStrides in 2015. In addition to domestic and international travel experiences for athletes, WorldStrides offers experiential learning programs in performing arts, language immersion, career exploration, service-learning, and study abroad. Each of these experiences helps students to see beyond the classroom and to see the world – and themselves – in new ways. For more information on WorldStrides, visit www.worldstrides.com.
