Our Mission

The Howe Foundation was founded by Mrs. Hockey® Colleen Howe. Her vision and mission was to help those in need and allow them to be able to enjoy, participate and learn about the great sport of hockey. The Howe Foundation is committed to enriching the lives of those who would otherwise not be able to share and experience the great world of sports.

Awards

The Howe Foundation has generously agreed to donate $5,000 USD per year to Sports4Life for two specific scholarships:

  • Colleen Howe Mrs. Hockey® Award: $2,500 USD for a female hockey participant in a LEGACY Global Sports event
  • Gordie Howe Mr Hockey® Award: $2,500 USD for a male youth hockey participant in a LEGACY Global Sports event

About the Awards

Gordie Howe Mr. Hockey® Award

$2,500 USD for a male youth hockey participant in a LEGACY Global Sports event

Gordie Howe, also known as Mr. Hockey® is recognized as the greatest all around hockey player in history and as one of the world’s finest athletes. His impact on the sport of hockey is incredible. He played a total of twenty-six seasons in the NHL and six seasons in the World Hockey Association. Gordie got his start with the Detroit Red Wings. He was deemed an NHL All-Star twenty-three different times. Howe and his wife started the Howe Foundation to give back to child athletes in need.

Colleen Howe Mrs. Hockey® Award

$2,500 USD for a female youth hockey participant in a LEGACY Global Sports event

Colleen, a U.S. Hockey Hall of famer, was the first woman in history to be honored by a major hockey hall of fame. She was an ambitious and innovative business woman. She founded THF to assist underprivileged children. She also raised over a million dollars for charity during a 65 city fundraising tour in honor of Gordie’s 65th birthday to thank fans.
